What is the process of sand blasting?

The process of commercial sandblasting typically consists of the following steps:

Surface Preparation: The metal surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove any loose debris or contaminants. This step ensures that the sandblasting process can effectively remove the target material without interference.

Abrasive Propulsion: The chosen abrasive media, such as sand or grit, is mixed with compressed air and propelled through a specialised blasting nozzle. The high-pressure stream of abrasive particles strikes the surface, removing unwanted coatings, rust, or other surface imperfections.

Containment and Safety Measures: To ensure safety and minimise environmental impact, sandblasting is typically conducted within an enclosed space or a designated blast booth. Proper ventilation systems and personal protective equipment (PPE) are employed to protect operators from dust inhalation and to contain the abrasive media.
